Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors, where participants share excerpts of their books or works-in-progress. It’s a fun way to sample new books and find new authors! Be sure to check out their website. Today’s selection comes from my book, Stay With Me (the full synopsis is below). Last week, a beautiful woman walked up to Noah and kissed him. Noah went with it, because…well, who wouldn’t? But after ending the kiss, the mystery woman makes a hasty retreat. Noah goes after her, but returns to the store empty-handed, where his coworkers are waiting for him.
“Maybe she’s playing hard to get,” Cass reasoned.
“It would’ve been nice then if she could’ve left me a clue or something,” Noah said, as they arrived at the books he dropped earlier. He cringed when he saw them: several covers were creased, pages were folded or torn and a couple of spines were bent out of shape. With a sigh, Noah hunched over and started piling up the books, straightening them up as he went along. One-by-one the stack grew, until there was nothing on the floor…except a piece of paper. He retrieved it and looked it over: it was an old receipt with random things scribbled all over it. It wasn’t his, nor was it in the aisle before: the woman must have dropped it.
“Seems she did,” Cass said.
