Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors, where participants share excerpts of their books or works-in-progress. It’s a fun way to sample new books and find new authors! Be sure to check out their website. Today’s selection comes from my book, Stay With Me (the full synopsis is below). This will be the last post from this book. Last week, after a disastrous dinner date, Alma ran off once again, leaving Noah standing in the restaurant. This time, though, he went after her and found her. They eventually went back to his place, to the rooftop of his apartment building, where they ate and talked – about him, her, and some of the more uncomfortable events of the day, bringing their day to a close…
Alma stared out into the night sky and ate her food, but she didn’t answer him, or acknowledge his last comment, leaving Noah to wonder what was going on in her head. After a while, she finished up and placed her plate on the ground; then, she curled up next to him and rested her head on his chest.
“You’re a really nice guy, Noah.”
Her voice was so small.
He started to tell her what he thought of her as well, but she brought her hand to his lips and said, “Just say thank you, okay?”
With no room to object, Noah nodded, and did as she asked, saying, “Thank you.”
She relaxed then, placing her arm around him, and closing her eyes. Noah’s arms naturally fell around her and he pulled her in for a tight embrace–Alma didn’t seem to mind; in fact, she drew closer to him until their bodies were seemingly one.
