MHAM: 5 Action Steps for Helping Someone in Emotional Pain

Oftentimes, we don’t know what to do or say to others going through emotional pain, especially when we think the person might be suicidal. Here are 5 steps you can take to help out and possibly save a life.

If you or someone you know is struggling with depression or mental stress, text ‘Start’ to the Crisis Text Line at 741-741. It’s free, confidential; and someone is available to talk to you 24/7. You can visit their website for more information.

You can also call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (800-273-8255).

Or you can contact the National Alliance on Mental Illness (800-950-6264) for support and local referrals.

You can also go to Mental Health America to find a support group in your area.

  1. I know what you are talking about. Iv been in a psychiatrie for 10 months. It happened 5 years ago back the. I had the strong thoughts that the woman of my life call Roxane got intimidated by some poeple. Everybody never beleive me and i i even think that my whole familly was in danger….i took sustena invega for 3 years and to be honest it didnt help that much. The only thing who made me feel better? Was telling everyone about this fear. And then i could realize that what i was saying wasnt making sens at all… So i kept saying it for long time around me….. And my mental health is weak. And i might starting back saying it…. But im good now i understand; its a mental issues and i live very good with it. Very good info btw. Keep going im not sure you realize the good work you are doing all by yoursel

    1. Thanks for the response. And thanks for sharing. It’s not always easy to talk about these issues, but the more we do, the better is it for everyone. We’re not alone in this. You’re not alone in this. And thanks for the encouragement.
