Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors, where participants share excerpts of their books or works-in-progress. It’s a fun way to sample new books and find new authors! Be sure to check out their website. Today’s selection comes from my book, Stepmothers Anonymous (the full synopsis is below). Abbey finally decided to throw caution to the wind and dance with Bradley. This lead to a whirlwind romance and the promise of things to come – good things and maybe not so good things…
Snippet:
Bradley and I dated in the weeks that followed and every moment I spent with him, I fell deeper in love. Of course I couldn’t admit that – it would certainly send him running in the opposite direction. Even still, I felt like a teenager again: anxiously waiting for the phone to ring, hoping he would call me, gushing when someone asked about him…I couldn’t help it: I was madly in love. And I wasn’t the only one: Zoë was absolutely taken with Bradley, or at least, with the idea of a potential dad. And why not, he treated her like she was his daughter and offered her the fatherly attention she lacked.
Nicole, on the other hand, was not quite as enchanted with Bradley as her sister was: she ran the gamut between indifference and impertinence where he was involved and often insisted on calling him Mr. Mauer. Most of the time, she simply chose not to speak to him; I knew if it were up to her, I wouldn’t be seeing him at all.
This brings us to Bradley’s family: I had yet to meet them, but I had reservations about them already.
Synopsis:

Abbey wasn’t always a wicked stepmother. Once upon a time, she was just an average, single mother, whose life revolved around her two daughters. Then the handsome and charming Bradley Mauer came into her life and swept her off her feet. Abbey was ready to live “happily-ever-after” – until reality set in, bringing with it an incorrigible stepdaughter, newfound telekinetic powers and betrayal by friends and family. Not even the support of her stepmothers’ group was enough to belay her life from meeting the same fate as the fairy tale villainess. So with few options left to her, Abbey decides to embrace her role as a wicked stepmother and make her own happy ending.
Purchase the book at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, iBooks and Kobo.

Nice evocation of the difficulties inherent in blending families.
Thanks Ed.
Families can make one crazy but not today, Mother’s Day. Enjoy every moment.
I’m a little late, but thank you! I certainly enjoyed my day by doing nothing. And HMD to you.
That sounds ominous. And intriguing. Can’t wait to read more!
It definitely gets interesting from here. Thanks for the comment Nancy.
Interesting how Zoe and Nicole have completely opposite reactions to him. Enjoyed this excerpt!
Thanks Kate.
Fascinating differences between the 2 girls. A new person changes the dynamics of a family. I’m eager to see what happens when she meets his family.
Oh, I think you can probably guess, given Abbey’s introduction. But you’re right about the dynamic. Thanks for the comment, Diane.
