“Becoming the reader is the essence of becoming a writer.”
John O’Hara

When I first began blogging years ago, my preferred subject was the books I read. I was never one to read trending books, so I was always a few years (or a few decades, or in some cases, a century) behind everyone else.

I relished less-known authors, ones I found on the Kindle freebie list. Or at the clearance rack at Barnes & Noble. Or after perusing the shelves of the library.

And they had to be specific to particular genres—romance, fantasy, historical fiction, adventure, gothic horror or drama.

I loved reading, and wanted to share with others the joy—and wisdom—I found in those pages.

Books made me the author I am today and while I enjoy writing my own work, I still enjoy writing about books. They were meant to be shared and discussed, after all.

That was the reason why, when I decided to start a newsletter, I opted to write again about the books I read. I called that portion of my newsletter, RUTH READS.

Clever, I thought. Or just merely cute, but a very apt description.

The first book I wrote about was The Beast of Maug Maurai, a medieval fantasy offering from Roberto Calas.

You can read it here.

It’s not long and I don’t mean to switch you to another site, but if you’re interested in partaking of a little more of my writing, I encourage you to read it and subscribe. I’ll release a new post biweekly and the books will vary, but I would very much love to hear from you and your take, if you’ve read the book, or if it sounded interesting at all.

As always, thanks for stopping by!
