Weekend Writing Warriors: You Came on Too Strong

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors, where participants share excerpts of their books or works-in-progress. It’s a fun way to sample new books and find new authors! Be sure to check out their website. Today’s selection comes from my book, Stay With Me (the full synopsis is below). This week, we hear from Alma: Noah has spent the better part of the day with her. And while she’s been resistant to forming any kind of relationship, she doesn’t mind enjoying a temporary moment with him. She makes a move on Noah, but he turns her down, in a chivalrous desire to get to know her first. Alma doesn’t take the rejection well and runs off to the restroom to collect herself.

Snippet:

Alma peered into the dimly-lit bathroom mirror: her eye make-up was smudged, and her long hair was bothering her. Frustrated, she pulled out her make-up case and hairbrush; she cleaned up the smudges and applied a thick coating of black eye-liner, then she brushed her hair back into a messy-bun. She stared at herself again, her eyes bold and commanding—she liked the look, liked the way it made her feel.

Just like sex: Alma had always been comfortable in her skin, enjoying the way her body was soft, round and feminine. She was made for sex—she appreciated and loved it; sometimes it even drove her, but nothing so consuming that she trolled clubs and street corners looking for a quick lay. She just loved the adrenaline rush she got from it.

So for Noah to deny her…

You scared him, she chastised herself, you came on too strong, you always come on too strong.

Synopsis:

SWM

Noah is stocking shelves at the local bookstore when Alma walks in and kisses him. He has barely enough time to grasp what’s happening when she ends the kiss and walks away. Too intrigued not to respond, the normally introverted shopkeeper goes after Alma…only to discover keeping up with the outgoing vixen is more difficult than he imagined.

Everything Alma does is impulsive and Noah is no different. The good-looking, but reserved clerk captured her attention on a previous visit and since then she’s been determined to steal a kiss. However, seeing him again after the purloined smooch was not part of her plan; and now that he wants to get to know her, Alma finds the future she’s carefully planned is suddenly uncertain.

With the odds stacked against them, Noah and Alma must decide if their fledgling relationship is worth pursuing, because if they can get past their doubts and insecurities, they might just have a future together.

The book is available at AmazonBarnes & NobleiBooks and Kobo.

Weekend Writing Warriors: What Was Coming Next

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors, where participants share excerpts of their books or works-in-progress. It’s a fun way to sample new books and find new authors! Be sure to check out their website. Today’s selection comes from my book, Stay With Me (the full synopsis is below). Having convinced Alma to go to dinner with him, Noah is now at her beck and call, as she has to run a few errands first. They stop at a boutique where Noah stands around awkwardly waiting on Alma. He is unsure of what to do, when his phone rings.

Snippet:

Grateful for the reprieve, he didn’t even care that it was Cass again.

“’Where are you?’” she asked, her voice low.

“It’s a long story,” he replied in an equally low tone.

“’Well, did you find her?’”

“Yeah…,” he began and instinctively turned towards Alma.

“’So, what’s her name?’”

Noah’s mouth opened, but no words came out, not even sounds, for Alma had kicked off her shoes and was unbuttoning her shorts. He should have walked away then and there, for decency’s sake, but he couldn’t—he knew what was coming next and no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t pull away from the sight in front of him.

Weekend Writing Warriors: I’m Bad News

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors, where participants share excerpts of their books or works-in-progress. It’s a fun way to sample new books and find new authors! Be sure to check out their website. Today’s selection comes from my book, Stay With Me (the full synopsis is below). Noah finally finds Alma, the mystery woman, but she isn’t as happy to see him and remains reserved when he asks her about the kiss.

Snippet:

He looked at her pleadingly, but Alma offered nothing. She couldn’t: this wasn’t supposed to happen—just a kiss and that’s it. So what if he was right about them? There could be nothing else.

“Will you go to dinner with me, at least? We don’t have to do anything more if you don’t want to,” he begged.

Dropping the feigned interest in her manicure, she sat up and leaned into the console, towards him: “I’m bad news,” she whispered, “You’ll regret the day you met me.”

Noah shook his head and said, “Never.”

Weekend Writing Warriors: Why Are You Here?

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors, where participants share excerpts of their books or works-in-progress. It’s a fun way to sample new books and find new authors! Be sure to check out their website. Today’s selection comes from my book, Stay With Me (the full synopsis is below). After  countless phone calls, running around town and meeting unsavory characters, Noah finally tracks down the mystery woman…

Snippet:

Noah didn’t see anyone when he stepped through the doors. So when his body connected with another – a woman – he was surprised, but quick to react. Instinctively put his arms around her and steadied her, so she wouldn’t fall. Only then did he get a better look at her–it was Alma. Every doubt and thought of failure he had entertained was erased in the moment he looked into her eyes.

Then she opened her mouth.

“Why are you here?” she demanded.

Noah wasn’t sure, but Alma didn’t sound too happy to see him.

Weekend Writing Warriors: That’s It?

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors, where participants share excerpts of their books or works-in-progress. It’s a fun way to sample new books and find new authors! Be sure to check out their website. Today’s selection comes from my book, Stay With Me (the full synopsis is below). Picking up where we left off last week, Noah had ventured into a tattoo shop to try to get more information about the mystery woman, who he learned is named Alma. Instead he found Glen, the seven-foot-tall and menacing-looking owner of the shop, who wants to know why he’s looking for Alma.

Snippet:

They walked into a small room, outfitted with a tattoo chair, a stool and a small table with various needles and inks. Glen held his arm out to the chair and Noah reluctantly sat.

“Now,” Glen said as he dropped onto the stool, “What did Alma do?”

“Uh,” Noah began again, eying the man as he picked up a six-inch needle off the table, “She, uh…kissed me.”

Both of Glen’s eyebrows shot up.

“And that’s it?”

Noah nodded.

Glen placed the needle back on the table, stood up and said, “Then consider yourself a lucky man and move on because she’s trouble.”

Weekend Writing Warriors: Alma

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors, where participants share excerpts of their books or works-in-progress. It’s a fun way to sample new books and find new authors! Be sure to check out their website. Today’s selection comes from my book, Stay With Me (the full synopsis is below). Noah and his coworkers have spent a good part of the day trying to determine the mystery woman’s identity. A small detail leads Noah to a tattoo shop on the other side of town, where he meets Glen…

Snippet:

Noah swallowed hard as a very tall man stepped through the curtain and joined the man at the counter. He had to be about seven feet tall–a full foot and some inches taller than Noah. He was as dark as midnight with a broad, muscular chest and heavily tattooed arms that were busting out of the vest he was wearing.

Because what’s the point of getting tattoos if you can’t show them off and scare the hell out of everyone, Noah thought.

“This is the guy who called about Alma,” the other man said.

Noah wanted very much to deny he said or wanted anything, taking a step or two back as Glen crossed his arms over his chest and stepped forward. “What do you want with Alma?” he asked–or rather, growled.

“I… I don’t …I don’t know who that is,” Noah stuttered, then it occurred to him–they were talking about the woman.
